Longevity Nexus

Longevity Nexus members come together for weekly sessions diving deep into topics in the longevity field. These sessions and journal clubs might focus on specific academic papers, broader topics that draw material from diverse sources, or non-academic questions relevant to the longevity field.

Often, sessions will cover a topic spanning several weeks. The output of these discussions always include write ups for our internal knowledge base and often high-quality public resources from these discussions to advance the longevity field. 

Members join a community of mission-oriented and talented peers in a Slack group, where they may freely access and contribute to a private repository of ideas, advice, and feedback. There will be occasional in-person meet-ups in San Francisco. In select cases, members will receive Fellowships to answer important questions for the field and/or take on meaningful projects within Norn Group, and will receive support and mentorship from Martin Borch Jensen.

As a member of Longevity Nexus we expect you to actively contribute to the community and play an engaged role in our mission of advancing applied aging research.

Our Key Expectations:

Active Participation: Attend at least 40% of sessions and contribute regularly by leading discussions, presenting topics, and providing insights both during sessions and in our Slack Channels. If you believe you will be unable to meet the minimum attendance or need to step away for a period of time, notify us.

Initiative and Ownership: Take lead, propose ideas, suggest papers, and commit to contributions. Members can ‘own’ by hosting sessions, building a proposal or creating a resource based on our insights as a group. Unlike a traditional Journal Club there are no passive roles… Your input and presence is crucial to the group’s success.

Members must host at least one session every ~4 months.

Collaboration and Contribution: Work closely with others, bring in external expertise, share resources, actively loop others into ongoing efforts to leverage each others’ ability and provide feedback on them too. Continuously contribute to producing high-quality, publicly accessible resources that advance the field.

Commitment to Personal Growth: We hold members at a higher bar than others, push beyond your usual expertise by exploring and actively seeking opportunities in new areas of aging research. It’s easy to share on a familiar topic, but rewarding for those unknown.

Consistency and Resilience: Consistency in all the above, in personal and the group’s long-term goals. Members must follow through on their projects, overcome challenges, and persevere to make a real impact.

Longevity Nexus members will meet some of the most promising people in the longevity field and will gain access to tacit knowledge from a network of talented, positive-sum, mission-oriented, doers in the longevity field. Membership will serve as a good signal of ability in high-quality circles, and members may receive public promotion of their longevity work.

Apart from instances in which members receive Fellowships to answer important questions for the field and/or take on meaningful projects within Norn Group, the Longevity Nexus is not a paid experience.

No, our weekly Nexus sessions and journal clubs are virtual and use Zoom.
